What does the Bezalel Experience have to
offer?
The Bezalel Experience provides the opportunity to learn at
one of Israel's premiere Art and Design Institutes. Bezalel offers a
wide range of theoretical and practical courses in all the different Art and
Design media. This is an opportunity to gain college credits and explore the
world of art in Israel while having genuine encounters with life in Israel.
The program also offers a captivating supplementary curriculum offering you
field trips and tours, seminars on different subjects such as Jewish identity
and Israeli identity, mifgashim – encounters – with your Israeli peers, and
learning Hebrew.
What's special about the Bezalel Experience?
The option for gaining college credits in the fields of Art and Design, while
studying abroad in Israel gives participants a setting that ensures both
academic and cultural learning. You will also volunteer once a week in places
that are related to your field of study. The supplementary curriculum which is
particularly interesting and further diversifies the program is another
attraction that this program offers.
Can you come for only one semester?
Starting from September 2009 there is a possibility to join the program for only one semester either the first one or the second one.
The length of a semester program will be longer than an academic semester due to academic exams and submissions, all the extra curricular activities and the Ulpan (Hebrew lessons) you have to attend before semester begins.
What will my day look like?
Aside from daily classes and coursework, the Bezalel Experience offers
you the opportunity to experience living your life independently in Israel. You
determine your own daily schedule, independently, taking into account your
volunteer placement, and according to your school and personal needs. At the
same time, there are professional seminars, exciting field trips, occasional
fun-filled group Shabbat programs, and enriching lectures which are an integral
and mandatory part of the program that in which everybody must participate.
If I don't get along with my roommates, will I
be able to move to another apartment?
In the course of preparations for your arrival in Israel, we will do our best
to provide you with the social and professional environment that best suits
your needs. In the event that during your participation in the program, a
problem of any kind should arise, you will be able to consult with the madrich
(counselor) and/or program coordinator who will assist you in resolving the
matter.
Who is responsible for the group in Israel? The Israel Experience, Ltd. is responsible for operation and
implementation of the program. There will be a madrich – counselor –
assigned to every group, to accompany you and serve to further enhance your
experience in Israel, and assist you in finding solutions to any problem that
might arise during your stay in the country.
When should I apply?
In order to secure a spot at Bezalel Academy and in order to allow sufficient
time to determine your eligibility for a MASA scholarship prior to your
arrival, you should apply to the program optimally in February, but we
will continue to accept applications up until June.
What kind of credit do I get at the end of
the program?
Upon completing your year of study at Bezalel you will receive college
credits based on the courses and work that you have completed. As with all
Study Abroad programs, the different Universities and Colleges in your home
country will have different criteria for accepting credit so that is something
that needs to be checked with the separate institutions.
Is the cost of airfare included in the price?
The cost of airfare is not included in the cost of the program. The airfare is
a separate expense to be financed independently.
How can I get a scholarship to participate in
the program?
You can download a MASA scholarship
application form. We recommend that you submit the form after January (when scholarship/Grant policy is updated) and provide all the information required in a precise manner in order to receive a response prior to the beginning of the program. Authorization of a scholarship is subject to the approval of MASA.
